Stephen F. McKenzie is a science teacher at Missisquoi Valley Union High School and has taught for more than 32 years.  He has worked at MVU his entire teaching career, starting soon after his graduation from the University of Vermont. Steve later received his master\’s degree from the So. New Hampshire University.  His expertise is in the field of biological sciences.   After playing baseball at UVM, Steve went on to coach baseball for 14 years at MVU in Swanton.  Steve has been married for 37 years and has two grown children who both graduated from MVU and two beautiful granddaughters, one of which is currently a third-grade student in Swanton and the other is entering kindergarten  Steve’s philosophy of education is that he believes very much in inquiry-based learning.  He has visited the Challenger Learning Center in Tampa, Florida two times as part of a school field trip.  Both times he saw the amazement on the faces of his students as they were presented the challenges of their space mission.  Steve understands the importance of training a future workforce and preparing them for the rigors of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).  In 2007, Steve was also recognized for outstanding achievement in teaching by the University of Vermont\’s College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences.
